Hey, im a student from Germany and im currently working on a research paper for my final year. Im writing about a mother and her children who emigrated to philadelphia in 1753, traveling with this ship. Do you know if there would be any other resources to find her if not on the passenger list?

Anyway you already helped me a lot, cause I know now why she wasnt on the list in the first place.

Thank you so much!

Hello Josh,
I linked to this page from my blog and gave credit to you and your fantastic genealogy research for finding the image of the ship Brothers. It is very likely similar to the merchant ship of the same name that carried the first Discalced Carmelite nuns from Texel, Holland to New York from May 1 to July 2, 1790. Here's the link to my blog for the May 31 quote of the day, where I reference your image of the ship. Best wishes for your continued work!

Hi Ronald, I believe this is likely a different ship. Ships tended not to be in use for such a long period (your ancestors sailed more than 80 years after mine) and also I believe the name is a clue. They were particular about names. "The Brothers" and "Brothers" wouldn't have been used interchangeably.

My ancestors sailed from England on board The Brothers from October 1836 to April 1837.
They were John ,Benjamin, and Richard Weeks.
Two of them were married in the week before sailing as John McArthur could only sponsor married couples to work on his original Merino sheep stud. I am descended from Richard. It seems that John and Benjamin's decendent's stayed with the spelling of Weeks where my family line has become Weekes.

Hi Sue, there's a Henrich Seytel on the 1751 voyage of the ship Brothers. Could he have used that spelling? Many Germans of this era went by their middle name, so it wouldn't be unusual if he signed as Henrich and not Johann Henrich.

The Ship Brothers made at least 5 passages across the Atlantic. It appears that Joann Gorg Horing was on this ship, but he's on the list for the 1750 passage. So he was indeed on this ship, but not on this voyage.
